| William James was
described as being 5' 7" tall, with a 38" chest, with light brown
hair, blue eyes and a fresh complexion when he joined the Navy at
Chatham in November 1909. He was first posted on board HMS Pembroke I,
followed by the Charybois, back to Pembroke I, then to the Victorious
and to the Victory. Sadly, he was invalided out of the service due to
epilepsy in June 1910. View
