Before he married Hilda,  William Martin HOWELL was a photographer in Hull. He later owned a cafe and a chemists shop in Robin Hoods Bay, Yorkshire.  although he dropped the William part of his name and was known as W Martin HOWELL. (JI)

William  served in the Royal Army Medical Corp during WW1, prior to that he trained as a druggist (JI). See his service record here:

Here too is the menu from William's Cafe, and it's cover (Thanks to JI). Note that William continued his interest in photography and was producing his own postcards for sale in his shops. He also took the photograph of his father-in-law William Henry NELSON shown on this site.

A daughter Hazel HOWELL was born in 1921 at Robin Hoods Bay.

William disappeared when Hazel was about 8 or 9. The family story has it that he went off with a touring theatrical group, (JI)
