Other information

In order to continue his education, Philip Charles GUMMETT transferred from St Vincent's School, Becontree, to SS Peter and Paul School, Ilford.

It was a great surprise to him when his mother, Mary Flavella fell on his new teacher, Miss GUINEVAN and greeted her like a long lost sister. Why was his Mum greeting this old(!) lady so warmly? Well, it turns out that Miss GUINEVAN had been 'walking out' with Mary's brother Bob before he went off to war. The two women had great expectations of becoming sisters-in-law, but Bob had been killed in the war. So Miss GUINEVAN, like many of her generation, remained unmarried and became a teacher.
