Other information

Josephine was married just one week before her sister Aunt Peggy got married to Arthur STONE. It caused quite a stir among her sisters, because Peggy had waited five years to marry Arthur - I don’t know why that was - maybe Arthur was studying for some qualification in Accountancy, for that was his profession - who knows? Anyway - everyone was getting excited about Peggy’s forthcoming wedding when Josie announced that SHE was going to marry Bert JOY on the previous Saturday!! I don’t think that anyone was openly cross about it but surprise was expressed.

Mary Flavella was determined to wear a different dress for each wedding! - of course !! And she talked about it for many years after the event. We children didn’t mind in the least - it meant two Wedding Feasts in quick succession! Of course you must remember that because of the "Fasting from Midnight" rule, nuptial masses were celebrated at some ungodly hour - something like 9.30am - which meant that we as a family had to set out from Becontree quite early to get to Holloway in time. I do believe that we were invariably late, but no matter we were in time for the Feasts! (KVG)

Children from this union: Paul (b 15 Oct 1936), Vincent (b 25 Jan 1939, d 1975?), and Bernard (b 28 May 1943) (KVG from family bible)
