Other information |
||
| Francis' marriage in 1938 was
witnessed by his sister Lena and reported in the Hull Daily Mail |
||
| Francis served in the Home Guard during WW2, as he had a preserved occupation | ||
| Francis was a good football player and a good cricketer. He could have been a professional football player if only the big club that wanted to sign him (Hull City ?) could have paid him more than 2/6 a week and then only when he played. Used to play instead for Blackburn works team and later became an East Riding Amateur Football League referee. His daugher Elizabeth used to go with him playing cricket. Elizabeth later went to score for Welton cricket club. (EAS) | ||
| Francis loved his gardening, especially growing vegetables to feed his family. When they had sports day between Blackburn's Brough and Dumbarton sites, Francis always took part in the slow bike race. Elizabeth remembers him pushing his false teeth out to make her laugh. |
