Other information

In 1940, Peggy and Francis moved with their daughter Elizabeth to a General Store in Elleker. They returned to 45 Skillings Lane in 1943 just before their first child was born. At that time, Peggy used to work for her mother Kate in the drapery at 41 Skillings Lane. (EAS)

The twins were born in Skillings Lane in 1944. Nurse BEWLER was the midwife. Francis came home at lunchtime to find the first one had been born; he went back to work and told his workmates that he had a son. The second baby was born much later and was a breech birth. The next day, Francis duly told his workmates that he now had twins. Of course, on the following day, he was asked "any more?!"(EAS)

Reg ENGLAND and Peggy were close as teenagers, and may even have had a brief romance. Reg was so smitten with Peggy that he had never married, and was still a bachelor when he married her in 1978. Reg, a bus driver, had lived in Elloughton. His brother once made a wooden clock for Elloughton Church. (EAS)
